Child support

  • Child Support Assessments
  • Private Agreements

In situations where there has been a breakdown in the relationship between the parents of children, it is possible to seek an administrative assessment of the appropriate amount of child support payable by the respective parents to each other.

Assessments are made by the Child Support Agency and take some weeks to process.

The amount payable is affected by various factors including the taxable income of the liable parent, the amount of time spent by the children in the care of the respective parents and any above average earnings of the custodial parent.

Parties can also enter into private agreements with their partner as to the amount of child support to be paid, which can include private school fees and expenses, medical health insurance, extra curricular activities and other associated expenses.

There are two types of child support agreements:

  • Binding Child Support Agreements; and
  • Limited Child Support Agreements.
